How it works

1. Create an account

Sign up with an email address (or a Google, Microsoft or Apple account) and confirm your email address.

2. Upload a document

Upload plain text, Markdown, HTML, Word, RTF, OpenDocument text (ODT), Apple Pages, or PDF. A PDF must have a text layer; a scanned page image has no text for us to read. Hidden text, comments and tracked deletions in a file are left out, and the report says when that happened.

Instead of a file you can give the address of one public web page. We fetch that page only, read its text, and show you what we read before anything is charged. If you review a particular kind of document, such as a contract, a pleading, a patent application or a technical standard, choose it under Special Treatment to add checks suited to it. This does not give legal advice.

3. See the price

You are shown the price for your own document or code before anything is charged, and you decide whether to pay. Your first 3 runs on the site are free. If you go ahead, the review starts.

4. Wait for the report

You can leave the page and come back. Short documents usually finish in a few minutes; long ones take longer.

5. Read and download

The report lists each finding in order of importance, with the place it occurs in your document and what to do about it. Download it as Markdown or HTML. The report is deleted after both downloads, when you press Delete now, and in any case within 24 hours.
